VN-Index dips on weakening demand

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index went down on April 26 as banking, securities, real estate, and construction shares were sold shares heavily while mining shares continued to rise strongly but investors refused to buy shares at high prices.

The gauge of 305 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange declined 0.56 per cent, or 2.66 points, to close at 470.21 points with 135 gainers, 113 losers, and 62 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse rose by more than 9 per cent in volume and nearly 35 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 96.32 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.74 trillion.

Sacom Development & Investment Corporation (SAM) was the most active share in volume with 4.83 million shares changing hands.

Licogi 16 Joint Stock Company (LCG) followed with 4.67 million shares.

Petro Vietnam Finance Joint Stock Corporation (PVF) ranked third with 3.15 million shares traded.

Sea & Air Freight International (SFI) curbed its four-day winning streak, giving up 4.88 per cent to close at VND19,500.

Dry Cell And Storage Battery Joint Stock Company (PAC) slid 4.84 per cent to close at VND23,600.

Tuong An Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company (TAC) retreated the fourth consecutive day, losing 4.81 per cent to close at VND37,600.

Dong Thap Trading Corporation (FDG) resurrected 4.96 per cent to close at VND12,700.

Viet An Joint Stock Company (AVF), Dong A Plastic Joint Stock Company (DAG), Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC), and Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSC) all rose 4.94 per cent to close at VND17,000, VND8,500, VND44,600, and VND34,000 respectively.

Binh Minh Plastic Joint-Stock Company (BMP) enhanced 4.93 per cent to close at VND44,700.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – dropped 4.68 points, or 0.86 per cent, to end at 538.1. Among its 30 members, 8 stocks rallied, 20 fell, and 2 closed unmoved.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north tumbled 1.02 per cent, or 0.81 points, to close at 78.74 points with 126 winners, 149 losers, and 59 stocks treading water. Around 75.04 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND776.66 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares inched up 0.34 per cent, or 0.12 points, to close at 35.31 points. A total of 232,026 shares changed hands at VND1.59 billion.
