Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index went down on March 19 as investors were anxious after several blue-chip stocks declined.
The gauge of 305 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dipped 0.1 per cent, or 0.45 points, to close at 438.07 points.
Across the benchmark, 92 stocks advanced, 146 retreated, while 72 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse fell by 50 per cent in volume and 20 per cent in value over the previous trading session as 58.55 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND919.59 billion.
Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was the most active share in volume with 4.15 million shares changing hands.
Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) was the second most active share in volume with 2.96 million shares.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) came next with 2.38 million shares traded.
NBB Investment Corporation (NBB) curbed its four-day winning streak, losing 5 per cent to close at VND39,900.
Hoa Binh Rubber Joint Stock Company (HRC) and Becamex Asphalt & Concrete Joint Stock Company (ACC) blew away 4.9 per cent to close at VND40,800, and VND19,400 respectively.
Transforwarding Warehousing Corporation Ho Chi Minh City (TMS) shortened 4.88 per cent to close at VND23,400.
Hoi An Tourist Service Joint Stock Company (HOT)) and Cotec Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD) both jumped 5 per cent to close at VND23,100, and VND37,800 respectively.
International Development & Investment Corporation (IDI) advanced three consecutive trading sessions, growing 4.94 per cent to close at VND8,500.
Viet Nhat Medical Instrument Joint Stock Company (JVC) slashed 4.88 per cent to close at VND25,800.
The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – inched up 0.35 points, or 0.07 per cent, to end at 497.22. Among its 30 members, 12 stocks gained, 13 retreated, and 5 remained unmoved.
Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north rose 0.19 per cent, or 0.14 points, to close at 72.9 points with 116 winners, 158 losers, and 53 stocks treaded water. More than 78.93 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND754.96 billion.
UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares surged 0.4 per cent, or 0.14 points, to close at 34.9 points. A total of 2,106,556 shares changed hands at VND67.62 billion.
