Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index maintained the losing trend to eight consecutive trading sessions on December 15 as investors continued dumping shares heavily to avert risks.

The index of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange contracted 0.84 percent, or 3.07 points, to close week at 364.48 points.

Across the benchmark, 71 stocks surged, 160 fell, while 75 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse dropped by 30 percent in volume, and 21 percent in value over the previous day as 40.5 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND688 billion.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) were most active shares in volume with 3.41 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, followed with 1.6 million shares.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) came next with 1.57 million shares traded.

Meca Vneco Investment & Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company (VSH) declined for four straight days, cutting 5.56 percent to close at VND1,700.

Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) tripped 5.26 percent to VND1,800.

Dong Thap Trading Corporation (FDG), Masan Group (MSN), Urban Development & Construction Corporation (UDC), and Son Ha International Corporation (SHI) all closed down 5 percent to VND13,300, VND95,000, VND3,800, and VND5,700 respectively.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) rebounded 12.5 percent to close at VND900.

Construction & Materials Trading Joint Stock Company (CNT) rallied 5 percent to VND8,400.

Kinh Bac City Development Share Holding Corporation (KBC) climbed the fourth day, strengthening 4.96 percent to close at VND12,700.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north adjusted 1.24 percent, or 0.74 points, to close at 58.9 points. Around 38.7 million shares changed hands at a value of VND311.32 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares also slumped 0.32 percent, or 0.11 points, to close at 33.97 points. A total of 200,276 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.11 billion.
