Stocks soar on optimistic sentiment

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index strongly jumped on October 28 as several blue-chip stocks rebounded amid positive news on global market.

The measure of 298 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange leaped forward 1.76 percent, or 7.32 points, to close at 422.07 points.

Across the benchmark, 203 stocks surged, 38 receded, while 62 remained unchanged.

Around 41.4 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND700 billion on the city bourse today.

Hoang Quan Consulting - Trading - Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) was the most active share by volume with 2.51 million shares changing hands.

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) ran after with 1.79 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, ranked third with 1.58 shares traded.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) reversed 7.14 percent to VND1,500.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) revived 6.25 percent to close at VND1,700.

Other winners on the southern trading floor included Development Investment Construction Joint Stock Corporation (DIG), Licogi 16 Joint Stock Company (LCG), and Viet - Han Corporation (VHG).

Ca Mau Frozen Seafood Processing Import Export Corporation (CMX) which resumed its six-day losing streak, Foreign Trade Development & Investment Corporation (FDC), and Tay Ninh Rubber Joint Stock Company (TRC) were the biggest losers on the city bourse today. They all impaired 5 percent to VND5.700, VND26,600, and VND38,000 respectively.

Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (PDN) edged down 4.89 percent to close at VND29,200.

Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Corporation (DCL) pruned 4.88 percent to VND15,600.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north strongly resurrected 3.19 percent, or 2.16 points, to finish at 69.94 points. Around 50.79 million shares changed hands at a value of VND505 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares strengthened 0.52 percent, or 0.16 points, to 30.69 points at 2:30 pm local time. A total of 133,800 shares changed hands at a value of VND885 million.
