South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Company has worked with the northern province of Thai Nguyen on a US$3 billion smart phone project, announced the Investment Promotion Center under the province’s Department of Planning and Investment.

Samsung Electronics Vietnam plans to deploy the project in the province, where a US$2 billion smart phone plant has already come into operation since March, said the center.

If the project is licensed, Samsung will be the largest foreign investor in Vietnam with total investment capital of US$11.2 billion.

At present, Samsung contributes nearly 20 percent of the country’s export turnover.
