HCMC prepares goods worth VND18 trillion for Tet holidays


The total value of food and foodstuff which businesses have been producing to prepare for two months of the Tet holiday season is worth of VND18,425 billion, up 3.44 percent over the same period last year, reported by HCMC Department of Industry and Trade yesterday.

Of the total, subsidized commodities value tops VND7,533 billion. The goods value will be VND10,812 billion in peak time from January 6 to February 4 with VND4,212 billion being subsidized commodities.
The volume of goods prepared for the Tet holiday will be 23-36 percent higher than the same period last year.
Through trade cooperation programs, the Department of Industry and Trade has worked with provinces and cities with large goods supply to grasp farming production situation.
Of the total, subsidized commodities value tops VND7,533 billion. The goods value will be VND10,812 billion in peak time from January 6 to February 4 with VND4,212 billion being subsidized commodities.
The agency is expected to host a supply-demand connectivity conference with other provinces and cities on November 22-23 to seek specialty source for the holiday.
Currently, 9,000 tons of goods are transported to wholesale markets a day mainly farm produce, seafood and cattle meat, accounting for 60-70 percent of the market supply. The goods volume is expected to increase by about 80 percent over normal to reach 15,000-16,000 tons a day near the Tet holiday.
The consumption demand of confectionaries will approximate 18,500 tons in the holiday. Traders have been rushing to prepare flowers to meet highly increasing demand in the holiday.
