Foreign distribution networks open new export channel for Vietnam

2016 was the first year distribution networks implemented the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s project to boost Vietnamese businesses’ attention in foreign distribution networks by 2020. The project has opened export opportunities for many Vietnamese farm produce.

Mr. Ho Quoc Nguyen, director of Public Relations division of Central Group Vietnam and Big C said that last year the group exported a huge volume of Vietnamese goods to Thailand with the total turnover estimated to reach US$50 million. Major export items comprise farm produce, seafood, cosmetics, furniture and handicraft items.
At present, the group is promoting expansion of the Vietnamese goods export list to Thailand as well as other nations in the world.
According to plan, the group will work with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize the second Vietnamese goods week in Thailand to support enterprises having export potentials to access and introduce their products to Thai consumers and distributors.
That will be a chance for Vietnamese businesses to advertise their goods in Thailand.
Mr. Yoon Byung Soo, director of the Product Strategy Division of Lotte Mart Vietnam, said that the value of goods at the supermarket system imported from Vietnam in 2016 totaled VND1.3 trillion ($57.31 million). The most imported items were seafood, fashion items and home appliances.
Lotte Mart is making efforts to seek more qualified products to meet demand of each country and increase the export volume of goods to Lotte Mart supermarkets in countries.
This year, the supermarket targets VND2 trillion export value of Vietnamese products comprising fresh food, farm produce and home appliance.
Aeon Vietnam reports that at present 1, 675 Vietnamese companies are supplying goods for the system. It has exported Vietnamese goods to Asia and Japan with the total value of $200 million. Pangasius fish alone reaches 1,500 tons worth $9 million.
From June 5-11, Vietnamese goods week-Hanoi 2017 took place at Aeon Lake Town Mori shopping mall, Saitama province, Japan with the attendance of 36 businesses directly showcasing many products such as fashion items, footwear, handicraft, interior decoration items, presents, processed food and products under national brand names and local specialties.
Besides those directly attending the event, seven businesses from Hanoi and 26 companies from provinces and cities sent also their products to the fair.
With the project of boosting Vietnamese businesses’ attention in foreign distribution networks by 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will implement measures to assist businesses to access foreign distribution networks.
As plan, the ministry will organize seminars training skills for businesses to improve competitiveness and ability of accessing foreign distribution systems.
The seminars will connect Vietnamese export firms with foreign distributors to learn about partners’ demand, standards for suppliers as well as standards of each distributor.
Besides, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will promote foreign direct investment distribution companies to transfer technologies to Vietnamese companies so that they will meet requirements to attend foreign distribution chains.
