EVN not to increase electricity prices

Electricity Group of Vietnam on March 16 rejected a rumour that the group had proposed to the Government to increase electricity prices.

Electricity Group of Vietnam on March 16 rejected a rumour that the group had proposed to the Government to increase electricity prices.

In a statement released to the press recently, EVN said that an increase in electricity prices will have to be considered carefully, undergo necessary formalities and will be subject to approval by competent agencies before it can be applied.

According to Pham Le Thanh, Director-General of EVN, electricity is an essential item that impacts the social and economic sectors. Therefore, electricity prices are carefully monitored by the State.

Earlier, Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Prime Minister said that it is important to make the electricity and power sector much more attractive to draw further investments.

The Deputy PM also requested EVN to resign power purchase contracts with power generators outside EVN group.
