The first 500 G7 Mart convenience stores have been launched on August 5 by the G7 Trade and Service Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Trung Nguyen Coffee.

G7 Mart stores sell a variety of foodstuffs, alcoholic beverages, cosmetics and consumer products such as newspapers, phone cards, medicines, etc.

Sales Manager Ngo Van Binh of the G7 mart store chain said his plan up to 2010 is to set up 7,000 convenience stores, 200 distributing centers, 100 wholesaling centers across the nation.

Besides, seven trade centers and seven retail supermarkets will also be established, said Mr. Binh, in a bid to connect local producers with distributors for the best market prices.

The corporation believed this is a move to counterpoise against incoming foreign giants in distribution and to assist the Vietnamese trademark development.

Unlike supermarkets, which aim at high income earners, convenience stores, as with mini-marts, will target middle-class people, providing goods at reasonable prices. Meanwhile, convenience stores will prove superior to the traditional markets because they will provide better services and quality.
