The Vietnamese footwear industry will barely make its export target for this year due to the European Commission’s anti-dumping lawsuits against Vietnamese leather shoes.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade warned that in order to hit the year’s target, the sector has to earn US$400 million in exports revenues over the last two months of the year.
October’s footwear exports only reached some US$280 million, US$30-35 million lower than averages for previous months.
Total footwear exports over the last ten months amounted to US$3.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of only 9.9 percent.
After the anti-dumping problems in the EU market, many Vietnamese footwear exporters have not been flexible enough to switch to other markets or change the composition of their products.
