The Ben Tre Import Export Joint Stock Corporation has recently inaugurated Thanh Thanh Cong Plant specializing in the production of canned coconut water and coconut milk for export.
The plant with a capacity of 37 million liters of coconut water and coconut milk per year is expected to create jobs for more than 300 local workers. It guarantees to buy coconuts from 2,454 households at higher rate than market price if the price of coconuts goes down.
Construction of the plant, which costs a total investment of over US$20 million and covers an area of 7.5 hectares at Phong Nam Industrial Cluster in Giong Trom District, Ben Tre Province, commenced in 2014 and was completed in June 2015. This is the first plant in Vietnam to use UHT sterilization technology, helping retain product taste and freshness without adding any preservatives.
About 90 percent of canned coconut water and coconut milk produced by the plant will be exported to North America, Europe, and some countries in Asia and North Africa.
