He urged the firm to assist farmers to change their current farming methods into an advanced model to provide clean and high quality as well as productivity products, meeting standards to integrate into nations in the Southeast Asia region.

According to Mr. Thang, the city’s agro-aqua-forestry industry accounts for 0.84 percent and contributes only 0.04 percent to city economic growth but the industry plays an important role in improving the life of farmers in Can Gio and Cu Chi outskirt districts.

They are revolutionary bases scarifying much in country protection wars. At present, the two districts have still faced economic difficulties, especially Can Gio district.

Although the Party, the Government and city authorities have paid much attention to locals but the attention has brought unexpected results. Therefore, supplying farmers with means of support is very important requiring both government and businesses to join hands, he added.

Mr. Thang proposed the Civil Affairs Committee of the city People’s Committee to complete a project to restructure the dairy industry in line with Vinamilk process by the first quarter this year.

Among his requirements to the project is that the company will provide breeding cows and transfer its breeding technology to renew farmers’ dairy herds towards higher productivity and quality of milk products.

Farmers with the herb of at least 50 new-breed cows will get loans with low interest rate or even at 0 percent to improve the quality of cows and milk, breeding process and materials to ensure product quality, hygiene standards and good prices for breeders. That is the best way to assist farmers, he added.

He expressed pleasure to know Vinamilk has continued strategic investment in material source under international standards. So far the company has had seven farms and two under construction over large scales. The company has imported its breeding cows from Australia, New Zealand and the US.

All the farms meet Global GAP standards in farm management and fresh milk quality and have modern waste treatment systems.

The city secretary also appreciated the company for connecting with over 8,000 households nationwide with the total herds of 120,000 cows and buying 750 tons of fresh milk from them a day. This has contributed in creating jobs for farmers and developing the dairy industry stably and sustainably.
