Canadian ambassador to Vietnam David Devine and Visual Defense Service Group (VDS) proposed to upgrade the security system at Noi Bai International Airport at a meeting with Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang in Hanoi on Tuesday.
According to the proposal, the BOT project will be implemented in 20 years. Total investment capital will be US$210 million to upgrade the security system at the airport including US$105 million for the first phase.
The group will collect security fee to reclaim the investment fund. It is proposed to be US$5.75 per international passenger and US$1.5 per domestic passenger.
Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang suggested VDS to directly work with the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam to carefully negotiate over the fee collection time and level.
It is only US$1.75 per an international passenger and VND10,000 a local passenger now, he added.
