Automobile Sales Surge For 10 Months

The car sales of the Viet Nam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) members in the first month of the new year reached 12,084 units, a year-on-year rise of 156 percent.

About 12,084 cars are sold in the first month of the new year

VAMA said its members have enjoyed the increase for 10 consecutive months, as from March last year.

The Viet Nam Motor Industry Corporation (Vinamotor) led in January with 2,792 units sold, followed by Truong Hai Automobile with 2,007 units. Toyota Viet Nam slipped to the third place with 1,841 units.

Commercial vehicles accounted for a large percentage with 7,780 units sold, surging 350 percent, passenger cars – 2,106 units, increasing 77 percent, and SUVs/MPVs – 2,189 units, increasing 22 percent, over the same period last year.

In addition, the sales of lorries also jumped after the Government’s decision to prohibit home-made vehicles.

The South and the North recorded the highest sales with 5,070 and 5,065 units, respectively, while the Central region sold only 1,949 units.
