Air fares not to increase

The Ministry of Finance’s decision permitting charge raise on some services at airports from October 1 will have a slight increase in travel costs but not in air fares, Mr. Vo Huy Cuong, deputy head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam told Saigon Giai Phong on September 18.

According to Mr. Cuong, the fare on domestic flights including the most crowded routes has not reached ceiling rates. Therefore, it will not increase at this time. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has not received any proposal from airports on the fare increase.

The decision will increase travel cost on domestic routes by VND20,000 a passenger.

Specifically, airport charge will edge up VND10,000 a passenger. Passengers will pay VND10,000 for airport scanner fee instead of airport authorities as present.

The scanner fee will be VND32,000 (US$1.5) per international trip.
